User Groups

We identified the key user groups during the discovery phase of the project. With their help, we designed the service based on their needs with special attention to usability and accessibility.

Land owners and Farmers

Looking for information that Defra has published about me or my business.

Investigators

Looking for factual information about different farming activities in England (e.g. Journalist or Academic).

Farming and countryside developers

Looking to identify (groups of) farmers who could be contacted to make changes to land for public interest (e.g. National Farmers Union Charity, Water and flood management).

Ad-hoc users

Looking for information about what is going on around them (e.g. neighbouring farms).

Antagonists (anti-user)

Looking for information about farms and land owners for nefarious purposes (e.g. fraud, theft, etc.).

User Needs

We have identified following key user needs during our research:

As a User, I need to find out who the payment was made to, so that I know who is carrying out the activity on the farm.

As a User, I need to find out what the payment was for, so that I can understand what types of activity are being conducted on the farm.

As a User, I need to find the service easily, so that I can access the data that I need.

As a User, I need to have a clear explanation of what the payment descriptions mean, so that I can be confident I have understood the data I am using.

As a User, I need to view the information published about payments made to me or my company, so that I can be assured it is accurate.

As a User, I need to correct any errors in the data published about me, so that I can exercise my statutory rights of rectification.

As a User, I need to search for farms and businesses with similar names, so that I don't have to conduct multiple searches when I don't know the exact name of the business I'm looking for (fuzzy matching).
